The story behind my cousin the rogue:

My Cousin the Rogue is part of what has retroactively been termed a "molasses jam" run by the Bay Area Dev Collective. The theme of the jam was to make a violent genre non-violent. I love roguelikes and I thought it would be interesting to think about why these monsters are living in a dungeon. Perhaps they have more of a right to be there than the "hero".

This is just the demo version! The development has stalled out given that making games is hard! If you like it comment and I might try to finish it up one day.

This is a great concept and is fun to play too! Many game jam games don't manage to be fun, but this one does and is also a fresh concept, so that's good to see.

Also, I'm curious: What is a "molasses jam"? Is that a slower-paced game jam perhaps?

yup. it was a game jam where the idea was to make a game to sell at the end of it. The deadline kept getting pushed back so we named it molasses jam. but most people weren't able to make something big enough to sell for any amount of money...

The idea for My Cousin the Rogue was to add another level and like maybe 10 more creatures or something and then sell it on steam for $5.

Cool, thanks for the info. 😎
